Telc Exam B2 reading comprehension
Telc exam B2 consists of reading and then listening. The Telc exam B2 reading module consists of 5 parts, and you have 90 minutes to complete it.Part 1 (20 minutes)
In Part 1, you will be presented with 5 different information texts for which you must find appropriate headings. There are 10 headings. What’s special about this part is that the information texts usually cover two topics and the headings are close together. Reading carefully and precisely is the key to success. To complete this part, use markers of different colors to mark important points in both the information texts and the headings! This part builds on Part 1 in Telc exam B1. You can use the same technique for this as well.Technique
We recommend the following strategy: 1. Read the possible headings and identify the possible keywords so that you can differentiate between the headings. 2. Start reading the texts and find keywords that will help you narrow down the possible headings and allow you to assign them. 3. If you don’t immediately find a suitable heading for a text, move on, as some of the possible headings may be omitted during further processing, which you can then immediately assign to other information texts. 4. This will give you a narrower selection for each information text and help you make a better decision. We also recommend using several colored markers to identify the keywords. Always use one color for each keyword. If you are taking the Telc exam B2 digitally, use an extra sheet of paper and a pen to write down at least the keywords and possible headings. In this part of the Telc exam B2, you will have a text with five multiple-choice questions. The text is quite long and consists of 420 words.Technique
For such a long text and at such a high level, we suggest the following technique: 1. Read the questions and the answer options! Highlight the keywords in them! 2. If a word seems unfamiliar to you, always ask yourself, “Is this word crucial to the answer?” 3. Through all the questions and answer options, you will sometimes recognize a guide that gives you clues about the text. 4. Once you have completed the previous steps, start reading the text. 5. Quickly skim the text! To identify the main theme, core ideas, and structure of the text. This step will tell you which section answers which question. The fact that you may not be able to answer some questions depends on your actual level. 6. During the second reading, “thorough reading,” you must be able to answer all the questions. In any case, you will need to practice this approach several times to speed up the process.Part 3 (20 minutes)
You have 12 information texts compared to 10 people who are searching for something in a specific situation, and they must be assigned a suitable information text. The core idea of this task is similar to Goethe exam B2 Part 4. The situations and people have strong similarities. This means you have to identify exactly what each is looking for. The 12 information texts are authentic and often deal with similar topics or two related topics, e.g., music and education. You will find situations that deal with both education and music. A few information texts deal with one of these two topics. In addition, occasionally there is no suitable information text for one or two situations, in which case you have to mark an x. This part in Telc exam B2 is complex, usually causes problems for the course participants, and requires more time and concentration. Practice several times and identify what problems you encounter in this part to guide your preparation. We also recommend saving time in Parts 1 and 2 and investing in this part first. Of course, using different colors will help you. With e-exams, this will definitely be impossible, so you’ll have to rely on yourself and get used to working through them. Put yourself in the exam atmosphere and experience for yourself what challenges you might encounter. 2. The three parts of the Telc exam B2 in the Reading module are based on Telc exam B1 and will naturally be easy for anyone who has previously taken Telc exam B1, as the test taker will then be familiar with the techniques. 3.
