Telc B1 exam Language building blocks

The Telc B1 exam comprises two parts of language modules:

Part 1

In a correspondence consisting of a text of approximately 150 words, there are 10 gaps. For each gap, there are three multiple-choice answers. The 10 gaps are grammatical in nature.

Part 2

In a formal correspondence consisting of approximately 150 words, there are 10 gaps representing a response to an advertisement. There are 15 possible answers to these gaps. The 10 gaps are lexical in nature.

All possible answers are written in capital letters for a reason: to prevent the distinction between uppercase and lowercase letters from being used to solve the problem.

Technology

  1. To tackle these two parts, you need to analyze the sentence with the gap and determine which sentence element could fill it. You must ask yourself what makes the sentence meaningful. Is it an article, a noun, an adjective, etc.? Then these questions need to be explored further, for example, what kind of article is appropriate? The definite or the indefinite article? And in which case does this article appear? Etc.
  2. This approach allows you to quickly find out which answer is suitable in Part 1 and to minimize the abundance of options and guess the correct one in Part 2.

What topics remain in the Telc B1 exam, Part 1?

  • Past participle
  • Auxiliary verbs (have/be)
  • Adjective ending declension
  • Articles and possessive articles
  • Sentence connectors and prepositions (these must be recognizable by their structure)
  • relative
  • etc

Which ones are popular in the Telc B1 exam part 2?

  • Sentence connectors and prepositions (these must be lexically identifiable)
  • Verbs
  • Modal particles
  • Modal verbs
  • Prominal adverbs (prepositional adverbs): So that/for that
  • Adverbs
  • Etc

These two sections test your grammatical and vocabulary knowledge. However, please note that these two sections only make up 10% of the overall exam. This means that you will receive one point for each gap in your knowledge, which is less than in other sections. In the remaining sections, each question is worth 3.75 points. We recommend spending only 15 minutes, and no longer, completing each section.

Language modules in the Telc format only exist in the  Telc B1 and Telc B2 exams . There is no similar task in the Goethe format. Therefore, there is no parallel between Goethe and Telc in this respect.

If you are taking the Telc B1 or Telc B2 exam , it makes sense to familiarize yourself with the task format and practice progressively.
